Raising Canine

Gearing Up: Selecting, Fitting, and Using Dog Equipment

Course Information:

One person recommends this collar, another says that harness is better, and your dog disagrees with both. Maybe you have a box full of supplies that haven’t gotten the job done, or perhaps you are overwhelmed by the options online and in stores. This session will examine a variety of dog equipment options, including various neck collars, head halters, body harnesses, leashes, muzzles, wraps, and more. We will review suggestions for choosing what is best for a particular dog based on body structure, weather, objectives, and other factors. Videos will be included on sizing and fitting equipment to minimize risk of injury or failure while increasing efficacy, safety, and comfort. Finally, discover ways to slowly and appropriately introduce your pet to their gear in ways that minimize distress. This session will NOT cover unlimited slip collars, pinch or prong collars or shock collars nor will cats be addressed. Content is approptiate of dog consultants and trainers, rescue and shelter staff and other pet pros, or pet owners.
