Dog Meets World: Transitioning Leash Reactive Dogs From Training to Reality with Stuffed Dogs

Course Information:

If you work with reactive dogs, you know how essential it is to “stay below threshold.” Let’s say you’re working with a dog who is leash reactive toward other dogs. You’ve laid great foundational skills and it’s time to expose them to another dog at a distance where they can succeed. Sounds easy enough. But what if you’re in an urban environment that simply cannot accommodate the huge distance your dog requires? How do you help your client get out the front door when they live in a community that is crawling with canines? What options are there for practice when there are no appropriate dogs around? Or how do you help your client stay calm during those first exposures since the last walk that was a traumatic event? One simple option that may help: stuffed dogs! While this option isn’t for all cases, it can make all the difference in others. Learn tips, tricks, and logistics of how I apply this approach to gain one more useful item for your tool box.
