Sonya Wilson

Sonya Wilson is the author of the recently published book, Hairy

Situations: Crisis Planning, Response and Recovery for Your Pet Business. Sonya opened Austin, Texas’ first completely kennel free canine day care, Southpaws Playschool, in 2002. She holds a bachelor’s degree in education from Texas A&M University. Sonya continues to soak up all of the knowledge that she can and has extensively studied canine behavior, holistic therapies and off-leash play management.

Sonya’s chosen lifelong goal is to make dogs’ lives better, and she pursues that goal in many ways: as a canine day care owner, dog trainer and behavior consultant, foster mama, author and pet first aid and emergency response instructor. It was through organizing and teaching her pet first aid class, Four Legged First Aid, that Sonya became more aware of the need to make her pet care business disaster ready.

Sonya is a Certified Professional Animal Care Provider and is a member of the International Boarding and Pet Services Association, the Association of Professional Dog Trainers, Women in the Pet Industry Network and the National Association of Professional Pet Sitters. She shares her life with her husband and business partner, Tim Smith, and their six random-bred dogs.
