Sarah Dixon is a dog trainer and behavior consultant with nearly two decades of experience. She currently lives in BC, Canada and runs her own business, Barks and Recreation Pet Services.
Sarah specializes in a variety of complex behavior problems, including leash reactivity, resource guarding, separation anxiety, aggression towards dogs or people, and severe fear and anxiety. She spent several years working as a full-time trainer and behavior consultant in Manhattan, which provided her invaluable experience on handling behavior issues in a condensed, chaotic urban environment.
She is a practical, reward-based trainer who places emphasis on effective LIMA-based training and creating a strong, healthy bond between dog and owner. Sarah has experience training and competing in many dog sports such as obedience, rally, dog sledding/skijorring, herding, nose work, freestyle disc, tricks, and barn hunt.
Sarah is dedicated to continuing education and holds several respected certifications including Certified Dog Behavior Consultant through the IAABC, Karen Pryor Academy Certified Training Partner, and a Certificate in Canine Behavior Science and Technology from CASI.
Sarah is a multiple-time published author in publications such as: IAABC Journal, APDT Chronicle of the Dog, IACP Journal, Clickertraining.com, and the book Better Together: An Anthology of Modern Dog Trainers. She presents workshops throughout North America, has several online courses through the IAABC, and has presented multiple times at the APDT conference. She has experience coaching dogs, their owners, and fellow animal trainers in a variety of formats including group classes, private lessons, distance consulting, day training and board and train.
