Raising Canine

Understanding Scientific Research & the Scientific Method

Course Information:

For decades, dog training was ruled by tradition and folklore. As trainers and behavior consultants professionalize, it’s important for us to become familiar with the work of scientists who study dogs’ behavior and cognition. But scientific papers can be daunting to read, and they’re not all created equal. In this course, you’ll learn how research and survey papers are structured, and how to judge their methods and findings for yourself. With bonus tips on accessing the full text so you don’t have to rely on incomplete and often misleading news reports!
