Better Dog Training Through Cat Training

Course Information:

In dog training, a lot of dogs catch on really fast and make us look great. Miss timed clicks, dropped treats, inconsistent criteria, messy cues, sessions that go too long or push too hard: many dogs can figure it out despite us, not because of us. Train long enough and you’ll soon learn that these dogs do not represent all dogs and sloppy training can only get you so far. In order to be a better trainer and to work with those more challenging individuals and cases, you must improve your skill. An excellent way to become a better dog trainer is by training a species that tends to be less…..forgiving….of mistakes. The grand supreme for this is, of course, chickens. But a species that is more readily available, and slightly less challenging, is the house cat! This session will cover a few easy skills and approaches for training cats that can significantly improve your timing, precision, and training skill with dogs. We will also discuss how to get “in” to training shelter cats.
